Penn Can Speedway is set to kick off the season with a number of new programs to benefit racers at the speedway in 2008. The first of these innovative programs to be announced is a partnership formed with Main Racing Engines of Old Forge, Pennsylvania and Pine Line Auto and Equipment Sales of Eynon, Pennsylvania. The two long time sponsors of Penn Can Speedway will now take on the title sponsorship for the 2008 Rookie of the Year.
Main Racing Engines will sponsor the Modified Rookie of the Year and post a monetary award of $500. Drivers eligible for the Rookie of the Year are any racer who is competing in the modified division at Penn Can Speedway for the first time. Last season Garth Tonkin Jr was the Penn Can Speedway modified Rookie of the Year. Previous winners have been Brian Decker, Mike Gular, Joey Grammes, and Sean Collins.
Pine Line Auto and Equipment Sales will be the title sponsor in both the late model and sportsman divisions at the speedway. The award will be worth $250 for the drivers claiming the Rookie title in those divisions. There has been much speculation during the off-season about new cars and drivers coming to Penn Can to compete in both the late model and sportsman divisions. The battle for the Rookie of the Year should go down to the wire.
The Rookie of the Year in the super stocks, pure stocks, and four cylinder stocks will also be receiving award money for their titles as well. The sponsors of these awards will be announced at a later date.
Penn Can Speedway will begin the 2008 season on Friday April
25th with a five star program featuring the modifieds,
late models, sportsman, super stocks, and pure stocks. The speedway is located
on Route 171 in Susquehanna,
The speedway is sponsored in part for the 2008 season by
