Susquehanna, PA…The great racing action starts this Friday at Penn Can Speedway oval with the running of the annual “Can Opener. The opening event will feature the mighty modifieds in a thirty five lap feature paying the winner $1500.  Joining the modifieds in action on this special Friday event will be the 602 sportsman division, street stocks, the Xcel 600 modifieds, the factory stocks, and four cylinders.


   The official start of the point season will begin with this traditional event. All teams will draw for heat race starting positions with the top finishers redrawing for the feature event. Last season 2011 Penn Can champion, Kevin Hartnett won “The Can Opener”. A strong field of modifieds is expected for the first of several big events on the 2013 schedule for the modified teams.


   After last season’s King of the Can finale race teams are looking forward to getting back on the newly reconfigured clay oval. Race teams were excited about the added racing room through the turns and anticipate more of the same side by side racing action. A strong field of modifieds are expected at “the Can Opener.” After a very successful test and tune 2013 speedway champion Joey Grammes looked very strong. Alan Rudalavage, Adam McGeorge, Grant Hilfiger, Steve Babicek, and Nick Rocinski looked very strong as well. Other drivers indicating they will be at the Opener include former champions Mike Gular and Kevin Hartnett. Mike and Joey Colsten, Mike Nagel Jr and Sr, Bobby Trapper Jr and Sr are also expected along with a number of other strong competitors.
