AN EXCITING NEW SEASON PLANNED FOR PENN CAN SPEEDWAY

Susquehanna, PA…Penn Can Speedway in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania is coming off another successful racing season. Even with the weather playing havoc with the season ending King of the Can Weekend, the final event run Sunday November 13th was a success. With the Penn Can Speedway Banquet just around the corner, plans for the 2012 racing season are now in full swing.

A recent meeting between track owners Allan and Ron Beavan and track operators Al Wilcox and Reed Miller has put to rest any rumors concerning the future of Penn Can Speedway. Plans are underway to continue operation of the speedway for years to come. The speedway owners and operators have begun plans to keep the facility in top condition. Many ideas have been discuss with projects to be started in the very near future.

The modifieds will continue to be the headline class at the speedway in 2012. Besides the two signature modified events (The Clash at the Can and The King of the Can) other weekly special events will dot the schedule for the Friday night regulars. Crate sportsman, street stocks, four cylinders, and factory stocks will be on the card most every Friday this coming season. Many incentives are in the works for all divisions and will be announced at the Penn Can Banquet. The very popular CRSA Sprint Cars will also return to the speedway with four scheduled events including a huge national RaceSaver event during the King of the Can Weekend. This event attracted over forty sprinters to the speedway last season and should attract more this year. After a season away from Penn Can Speedway the Xcel 600 Series makes it return to the three eighths mile oval. The 600 modifieds will also be involved with the two small car Sunday events planned for 2012.

Unfortunately the speedway management has decided to not run the late model division in 2012. The decision was very difficult as Penn Can Speedway has been their home for many years. Dwindling car counts and the cost of racing a true late model made it almost impossible to continue. The drivers that did support the class over the last few seasons put on excellent shows for the fans and will be greatly missed.

Track officials have been putting the finishing touches on the 2012 rules package for all divisions. This will be released in the very near future. The final package will be available on the speedway website at www.penncan.com. Officials have been working hard to keep the cost of racing at a minimum and that should be reflected in the rules in each division. Changes cost the racer money. With that in mind, officials will limit any changes to each division racing at Penn Can in 2012. Questions concerning the rules can be directed to the tech inspectors, Bruce Evans and Mike Barucky.  Their contact information can be found on the website rules page.

The new 2012 schedule is coming along nicely. Regular Friday night racing will begin the late part of April and continue through early September. Two mid week specials are on the card along with a few Sunday dates. The annual King of the Can Weekend is planned for Friday and Saturday October 12th and 13th. The official schedule will be released shortly.

Penn Can Speedway will also have a presence at three of the area motorsports show. Speedway schedules and special event information about the Clash at the Can and King of the Can Weekend will be available at the Motorsports Expo held in Oaks, Pennsylvania in mid January. It will be available at the Brett Deyo Motorsports Booth. The speedway will have their own booths at both the Oakdale Mall Show in early March and the Motorsports Exposition at the Syracuse Fairgrounds one week later.
